The Society of Garden Designers Awards 2014

You might be used to seeing the glitz and glamour of the Oscars and BAFTAs during awards season, but another ceremony is fast-approaching for the world of plants – the Society of Garden Designers Awards 2014.

Handing out gongs for innovations in community garden projects, these awards celebrate the finest in landscaping design all across the UK, from transformed London back alleys to flora-filled country estates that lounge in the British countryside.

The awards have gained popularity at the perfect time – as urban landscapes sprawl and swell like growing, intertwining tree roots, we all need an occasional breather from the din. And what better way to recognise this necessity than with an award for the finest in design?

This excellence wasn’t always the case. As landscape designer and writer Darryl Moore stated in a recent article for national newspaper The Guardian, high-quality garden design “has all too often been conspicuous by its absence”.

But, again thanks to the growing population in urban areas, more focus has been placed on how we can get away from the trappings of the city for a small while. The community garden has become the new escape to the countryside, allowing you to simply breathe in, relax and marvel at your surroundings.

The 2013 awards were of such a high-calibre that the judges literally couldn’t decide on a winner – the prize went jointly to Gibbon’s Rent (that aforementioned London alleyway, now a thriving haven for plant life) and Montpelier Community Nursery in Camden, which exuded a joy and wonder in its design for children.

Indeed, just a quick browse through the Society of Garden Awards webpage shows a welcome vibrancy in the landscaping industry, and it’s one that we hope we can build upon, too.

If you’re after professional landscapers, both interior and exterior, to make the local community appreciate the look of your business, get in touch. Who knows? There might even be an award in it for you.
