Changing the layout and appearance of commercial premises can improve the morale of staff and reduce negative emotions.

This is according to Carole Spiers, business stress consultant and author of Show Stress Who's Boss!, who said there are inexpensive improvements that can be made to offices that can enhance the working experience.

Commercial mortgage holders may wish to consider some of her suggestions, which include purchasing a fish tank so there is "something living" inside the business location.

Potted plants can also improve the experience of staff and shifting the layout around so workers can look at different scenery can boost their morale, she continued.

The consultant remarked that some individuals get irritated by their colleagues and moving people around makes these interpersonal relationships easier to manage.

Bosses could utilise a team-building session to make changes to the building, such as by adding different chairs, a coat of paint or green plants, Ms Spiers suggested.

"Organisations need to make their offices like a family or community," she argued.

The expert advised people with a commercial property mortgage and other business owners to communicate with their workforce by asking them what alterations they would make to the department.

A key consideration ought to be "getting the most out of the situation without spending any money", Ms Spiers stated.

She pointed out that a questionnaire could be used for this purpose.

Recent research performed through collaboration between the University of Exeter and Ambius revealed consulting staff members about how to change the workplace and enabling them to personalise their area can improve motivation.

Artwork and plants can boost productivity by as much as 17 per cent, while enabling them to have some say over their working environment increases this figure to 32 per cent, the investigation discovered.

Other methods of improving employee morale highlighted by Ms Spiers include changing the offices around or establishing flexible working benefits for employees.
