David Lloyd Leisure sees sense in scenting from Ambius

14/02/2011

David Lloyd Leisure Clubs has selected Ambius, the world’s leading environment enrichment company for a new, nationwide contract as sole supplier of interior planting services to the 85 David Lloyd Leisure clubs across the UK. The contract capitalises on Ambius’ extensive expertise in creating planting solutions that provide both aesthetic appeal and deliver health benefits.

David Lloyd Leisure is also trialling Ambius Microfresh scenting in the changing rooms of is clubs in Hatfield, Finchley and Romford. Ambius Microfresh is an ambient scenting system which can be used for both scent marketing and odour remediation. Unlike conventional commercial air fresheners, Ambius Microfresh does not mask odours; it neutralises and replaces them with a more pleasant fragrance.

For the trial, Ambius worked with David Lloyd Leisure to select ‘Powder Room’ from a choice of 25 Ambius Microfresh scents and bespoke perfumes. ‘Powder Room’ is a sweet smell of baby powder combined with refreshing lily-of-the-valley, over an aromatic blend of French lavender, bergamot, and clary sage.

Paul Batty, Head of Procurement for David Lloyd Leisure said: “Ambius really understands the importance of creating the right ambience and the ways in which this can be achieved. The planting not only softens spaces and creates a design statement but the plants have health giving properties from which our members can benefit.

“The scenting trial has added a new dimension to the customer experience. Creating the right ambience in changing areas is a challenge for many health facilities and we recognise that getting this right is absolutely key. Members not only see and feel that the area is clean, fresh and welcoming but they can smell that it is too.”

Jeanette Van Roy, Managing Director of Ambius adds: “David Lloyd Leisure is committed to providing its members with a great experience and, like a growing number of commercial organisations, the company really appreciates the role plants can play in enhancing that overall experience. Planting can do so much more than create a focal point. They can improve air quality and reduce noise – valuable qualities in environments such as gyms. We are delighted to have signed this sole supplier contract.”

“Subtle fragrances can also be used to enhance the ambience of an environment, convey a mood and promote the right image. Ambient scenting is often used not only to mask odours (although it will do that too), but to enrich the experience that businesses can offer their customers. We look forward to the results of the trial at the three David Lloyd Leisure clubs using Ambius Microfresh.”

David Lloyd Leisure has over 474,000 members and 6,000 staff; including an expert health and fitness team of over 750 and more than 350 tennis professionals. Collectively the Clubs provide over 12,500 exercise machines, over 150 swimming pools and over 10,000 exercise classes a week. The David Lloyd Lesiure market-leading racquets facilities include 700 tennis courts plus 180 badminton courts and 140 squash courts UK-wide.
