Christmas deco dilemma hits UK businesses

08/12/2010

As high streets such as Chichester lose their sparkle with no Christmas lights this year, in a snap survey of over 100 businesses across the UK, over a third (35%) said that they won’t be giving staff the freedom to decorate their workstations and offices in the lead up to Christmas 2010. The findings suggest that in some businesses, the tradition of decorating the office may be falling by the wayside as they cut back on space, reduce non-essential costs and look to increase productivity. The survey was conducted by Ambius, the world’s largest workplace enrichment and interior landscape company.

However, Ambius has seen a 10% increase of sales of Christmas trees this year with hundreds of replica and real trees booked for installation, ranging from 7 foot to 80 foot tall. Ambius is donating £5 to Save the Children for every tree it installs this year. So far the business has raised almost £2000.

Jeanette Van Roy, Managing Director of Ambius said: “We deliver fully decorated Christmas trees to thousands of businesses across the UK, most of which appear in reception and front of house areas. Behind the scenes however, businesses have consolidated office space with hot-desking and reduced storage space.

“Clearly for some, the solution is to have a Christmas tree and decorations professionally installed by experts such as Ambius, knowing they will magically disappear again at the end of the holidays.”
